Valerie Harris - Fine Art
works on paper.

oil paintings.

a propos.
Valerie Harris's artwork is marked by the different milieu she has lived since childhood. From industrial Buffalo, New York where she spent her first years, she has lived in Manhattan’s hip Greenwich Village, Alabama with its racial hierarchies, Paris and finally the South of France where she currently resides. She received the Huntsville City award at 14 and the Susan Horowitz award upon graduation from university. She has a BFA (magna cum laude) and MFA from Hunter College, City University of New York. She studied with Bob Blackburn and Vincent Longo.
In 2011 Valerie Harris founded Art Intersection in Arcachon, France, a non-profit to promote the understanding of contemporary art. She exhibits regularly in France and in the USA.
A post-modern artist, Valerie Harris chooses her technique in relation to the subject. Etchings and collagraphy represent literature and mythology. For those inspired by French life, she paints with oil on canvas----contrasting bold forms with undulating paint strokes. Buddhist dualism is prominent in her artwork.
